One of my beefs with Pandora is that after listening to your station for 3-4 songs, it switches to older and older songs. New songs are probably more expensive to play so it grabs your interest with those but then goes in to maximize-profits-mode and plays old crap that gets boring.

itunes needs to release an unlimited music plan for $19/month or something similar.

I might be wrong but I believe running an app in the "background" is prohibited by Apple in the developers agreement and technically. This has something to do with the battery life issues and API conflicts.

Remember the presentation where Jobs made fun of WM's task manager?

Apple's still trying to protect users... while making less work for themselves. They won't get many complaints about slowdowns if they don't allow runnng background apps.

OTOH, Pandora on Windows Mobile keeps playing in the background, while I surf the web over a 3G network connection. I can go back to its window whenever I want. It's fantastic. Background apps can be darn useful.

Now, are they ever gonna fix the crappy quality???
Ever since 1.2 update I believe, stream quality sucks if you're playing it through decent headphones or speakers. There's that hissing noise whenever there's any bass to the song.

How does this app work anyway. It sounds interesting, but I'm not sure I understand how it works.

Search for yourself. It's really famous app. Easiest way is to go to pandora's website and give it a try.

As for the update, like many other apps, pandora started out great, now it's just a same old crap that gnerates money. I want pure Internet radiowithout app these fancy features but variety of selection and high quality.
We will see.

Pandora 2.0 App

Yes, we all want quality radio music for our iPhone, but Pandora is one of the best, if you don't like it use your own music, give credit to them providing this service.

i am not to sure if pandora expanded their song selection but after using slacker for about a week, i am back to pandora because it doesnt seem like it plays the same songs over and over.

Pandora has not been what it used to be for me, when it FIRST came out the quality was GREAT, now when i play music from pandora in my car it sounds like the quality is LOWer than when it first came out, even with the high quality music option ON...

don't know if it's just me though.. since i dont see anyone else complaining about it

Nope, it's not you, it's me too. I was an early adopter of Pandora on the iphone and it used to be 128kbps+ CD quality, and now it feels more like 64kbps.

running in background?...

I've heard that the iPhone will allow some apps to run in the background.. Will this be one?

Don't bet on it. Panora would probably not be very interested in that either since they make their money from you looking at and interacting with their player.

not available in Europe !

not available in Canada... music industry is such trash...

Sorry to tune in here but I just have to let it out:

This is yet another example of DISCRIMINATION and misunderstanding on the part of the music industry on how people actually buy music..

Some time back, when Pandora was available in Europe (that was before the music industry decided to cut it off here), I used it to discover new music and consequently actually went out to buy the artist's CD's... but now, after having waited patiently for months for Pandora to be freed from the greedy grips of the MI, music purchases in my household have almost stopped completely and thus it will remain until Pandora is back..
