Can anybody verify that the iOS 4 version released today is identical to the GM seed from June 7? I'm not getting an update option in iTunes but I hope I'm not missing out!

As of right now it is being reported that they are identical.

I did however have my phone lock up while playing Pandora in the background as well did a buddy of mine. We are both using 16GB 3GS models. It took about 2 or 3 minutes to lock up and had to do a hard reset. The music staying playing while locked up but nothing else would function at all, not even screen lock.

Will we be able to control pandora with the headset mic, or is that still just for iPod?

Just tested it. Yes, you can control it via the headset. Totally awesome.

Oh hell yes. Can't wait to get home and load iOS 4. Thanks. :)

PandorA

I just uploaded Pandora. There is a problem though. If you get a call and answer it Pandora closes and does not restart like the iPod does on the iphone. Anyone else have this issue? Same problem with outgoing calls

I never realized until I saw this walkthrough that not only can apps play background audio, but the OS has a universal control bar capable of pausing/skipping any app’s audio (presumably including Pandora).

Screenshots showed an iPod icon in that “widget bar” so I assumed it was like the current double-click controls: it’s just for the iPod app, not for every app. But apparently that icon changes to show any audio app.

So you’d double-click home, swipe to the left-most “pane” of the recent-app switcher, and you’d see standard playback controls plus a Pandora icon to launch the full UI (such as to bookmark a song).

That will be REALLY nice when I’m GPS navigating and just want to skip an annoying song!

For instance: this shot shows iTunes (not iPod) because the user is streaming a non-downloaded podcast via iTunes.

oh awesome, ty for posting this. i was wondering what would happen to that feature. i use it all the time, the double click to pop-up the audio controls, from the home screen, lock screen, and also for when i'm running another app. i was kinda disappointed that the double click would open the multi-tasking with the new ios 4.0 update.

Another poster in this thread said the exact opposite. Something probably went wrong in your test.

So how much data should I expect to use for pandora?

or rather, how low should I bend over for ATT?

You know what, it looks like I lied, I let the call go throgh to VM and then it picked up, but if i actually answer a call, it does not pick up where it left off, but you can just go to the multitasking menu and hit play without going back into pandora.

which data plan do u have? i already had the unlimited data plan with my 3gs, that i got june 2009.

So I'm on unlimited currently as well. I average 1GB / month so I was thinking about saving the extra $5 and going down to the 2gb / month deal.

But with multitasking, it just seems like I might use more data...

I got my hands on iOS 4 and this updated version of Pandora. And like how nagromme stated, the control scheme on the taskbar changes to fit Pandora. It's pretty great actually. I feel sorry for 3G users since this is so nice.

Well, we do get to use the iPod controls on a locked screen to control Pandora.

i'm just going to keep the unlimited data plan. once u switch, its gone, u'll never be able to get it back. unless AT&T decides to bring it back, not likely anytime soon. so is it really worth saving the $5? if u go over which ever limit u choose, i think the charge is an extra $10, but u'll have to check on that to be sure.

the few times i streamed it for 6 hours or so it came out to 100MB for the day on high quality

for $48 a year Slacker now supports caching on the iphone but no multi tasking yet. i like it better since i take the NYC subway

I used to like Pandora on iPhone but I hated the fact that you had to stay in the app...Now I can finally use it in the background plus control it using the iPod controls on the lock screen or multitasking bar! It is running very well on my 3GS in the background. Once all the apps I have include multitasking support (at least fast app switching) my iPhone 4 will be nearly everything i've ever wanted in a smartphone. Except maybe 4G and free wifi tethering (without JB), but those will come eventually.

Now only if Apple would announce anything about iOS 4 for iPad...

A few weeks back I play it for 10 hours straight, and it only added about 150mg to my usage. I was on Edge at the time, so that may have made a difference?

I stream over the Bluetooth in my car and it auto-pauses/plays as I get in and out of my car as long as it is running in the background, just FYI. This is one feature I missed when I tried out a Nexus One for a week and a half.

Haven't had an issue with the auto-resume not working when I get a call yet. Had about 3 calls earlier and it resumed each time.

Does anyone know if it's possible to thumb down a song or thumb up a song in the multitasking dock controls?

Nope, but if you swipe left to view the ipod controls, the ipod icon is replaced by the pandora icon that you can touch. Instantly pops open right where you left off so you can thumb up or down songs.

Works fantastic! Now I'm just waiting on iheart radio and last.fm to update their radio apps.

I wish they would/could expand Pandora's licensing to Australia.
Hopefully it's in the works...

I remain gutted that Pandora is a US-only application due to bloody music licensing issues. I wouldn't mind so much but this didn't used to be the case and I had a good year or so of the service as a paid subscriber before my access to it was killed, so I was pretty much used to how excellent it was.

I have it on my i touch. i love it! i get to listen to a bunch of music i like without paying for it and i find a lot of new bands i might like in the process :D its free, and i find it the most useful out of all my free and paid apps.
