Agree with others that Pandora has by far the best radio algorithm. Not sure if they have more hands on deck behind the scenes, but they are a clear step above everyone else.
The only reason I doubt such statements is that someone would have to actively be using multiple services, listening to music, liking/disliking songs. The amount of time involved would be ridiculous. So yah, I’m pretty sure a statement like this cannot be true “better job than the others”. More like “I like what it does for me”

otherwise, I could say “Apple Music does the best job picking music, it is phenomenal “. Truth be told however, I am totally happy with Apple Music, have not tried pandora, and won’t use Spotify until they pay artists fairly

Still waiting on the HomePod update Apple... Any time now...
It’s been working for me for awhile a long with intercom . Maybe I don’t get your comment, or you didn’t update, or don’t have a HomePod, or it’s Tuesday, sometime I don’t get things.

Have you installed any? I know I can change mail and the browser on iPhone, but only if I’ve downloaded a mail or browser app. I’m guessing same thing applies. Matter of fact I read the article, it seemed to say that.
The initial HomePod betas displayed the options in the attached screenshot in my post. Your were able to change the default source for the music provider. You don't have this option anymore in the released HomePod software. You can use a third party music provider, but you need to use a specific command every time. The original idea was so much more convenient.

I used Spotify for 6 years, Tidal for 2. Pandora is leaps and bounds ahead in creating channels that serve new to me music.

Still only an anecdote, but I do actively cycle streamers. The only reason I still have pandora is their channel algorithm tbh.

Now if only Spotify hurries up and integrates with SiriKit or whatever they need to do, I'll be super happy.

I cannot wait for Spotify support in Siri and HomePod. In fact I will literally run out and buy a HomePod (or order it online in case of Apple Store closures) they day they announce Spotify support!

I'm really talking about something that is easily tested. Pick any artist, go to a music app, and listen to the radio station that gets played off of the artist. I don't have any "liked" songs in Pandora, but it still does a better mix of an artist that Spotify that knows all my likes (and Apple Music prior to switching to Spotify). Pandora is just really good at bringing music you haven't heard before to you that you like.

So Spotify over 2 years or more ago was not as good, and who knows about Tidal, you don't say how long you have been on Pandora. I'm pretty sure that all services have tweaked a few things over the years. So my point still stands, unless you are reviewing all services at the same time, your claim is not possible to be made with any surety. You might simply say "I love the playlists I am getting from Pandora today" and that would be correct. I use Apple Music and the artists stations (Think actually picked by the artists, not algorithms), are outstanding for me

I'm glad you love your apple music stations!

My only claim was I've had pandora in tandem with "real" streaming services for over a decade. So far, nothing has been comparable.

Enjoy your tunes!

I have a HomePod on the latest OS, are you running beta firmware?

Correct. As an example, with Spotify and an Alexa, I can currently either ask Alexa to play a song or go into my Spotify app and cast that song to my Alexa. I like this option because it streams directly to my Alexa and doesn't drain my Iphone battery. I would like to have the same two options with the HomePod.
I have a little Yamaha wifi streaming speaker that does this. Super handy. Once you set it to playing Spotify or a streaming radio station, it's not dependent on your phone anymore.
