Anyone know how we can check the panel manufacturer on the newly released 15" rMBP? are there still multiple manufacturers?

System Preferences>Displays>Color tab>Open Profile, scroll down to Apple display make and model information. Google the Manufacturer and Model number.

My new computer which is the base model came with....

Samsung Display
Manufacturer - 00000610
Model - A02E

This model number is new, and I can't find reference to it.

00000610
0000A02E

I have this one also. Looked up the manufacturer code and seems like it's Samsung? Good thing :)

I got...

Manufacturer - 00000610
Model - A02F

How do you know yours is Samsung? I googled mine and nothing but weird links came up.

Kal.

The manufacturer code "00000610" corresponded to Samsung displays in the older rMBPs where you could find the display manufacturer using a terminal command. I can't remember what LG's code was except that it was 1 different so either 00000611 or 00000609.

EDIT: FWIW, my 2015 15" Retina MBP has Manufacturer 00000610 and Model A02E. Interesting that Samsung seem to be supplying two different models.

Same number as mine, I'm interested in finding out also.

I have an issue with the keyboard on this unit so I'm returning it, and I've got a new 15" coming tomorrow. I'll update this thread with the display details when it arrives.

I know everyone loves a good discussion of which panels are best, so my analysis of this one is that it's not great but not terrible. The colours are good, uniformity is generally not bad, but at the bottom right hand side of the screen there's a clear "shadow". Testing with a Spyer4 Elite shows that the backlight is a fair bit darker in that corner, as much as a 22% difference from the brightest point on the screen which seems high.

This doesn't indicate any inherent problem with this particular display model, just that the displays Apple uses still have a fairly high level of unit-to-unit variance and if uneven screens bother you then you might have to go through a few units to get one that suits you.

I feel as though i am the luckiest apple screen guy in the world. I bought the 13 in march and then the 15 when it came out and both have IMMACULATE screens.

To be honest, you're probably just a normal person. It's become something of an obsession for a few people on the forum (including me) to obsess over display uniformity. It's probably one of those things where you see it once and then you just can't unsee it.

I have to say, I envy you :p

Base model (Iris Pro)

Screen is awesome, but I'm just a normal person to quote JD92

Just use the darn thing and don't worry about it unless you see dead pixel or other issues. People these days have too much time on hand. Do something meaningful if you have too much free time.

Incase it helps i own a 15" rMBP mid 2014, bought in Dec 2014 and mine shows:

Manufacturer: 00000610
Model: 0000A022

I think mine is Samsung. Either way it's a beauty of a screen and far superior to the screens i've used on any Windows machines, this being my first Apple product i've ever bought/owned.

I love mine :)

Yes, this is a Samsung screen. It is the same one I had in my 15" rMBP.

I have gone through 2 units of 15 2015 rMBPs and the screen uniformity is horrible on both of them. Corners are fine but both had red tint and were dimmer on the right side of screen. I don't think screen uniformity is on the check list when they are doing the QC on those newly manufactured machines. Buying a $2500 laptop from Apple with a decent panel seems even harder than wining a lottery now.

My first screen was dimmer on the right hand side, this new one seems to be dimmer on the left side but it's quite a bit better than the last one. It's the same screen model as reported in ColorSync.

Eventually you've got to settle. I went through a period a few years ago where I returned more MacBooks than I'd care to admit due to screen uniformity issues, but life doesn't wait for you while you go looking for the perfect screen. You're right, Apple's screen uniformity isn't great, but I've also learned that it's not the worst out there (for example, I found the original Surface Pro to have pretty terrible uniformity). For this price you'd expect some more care on things like screen uniformity, but my bet is they're more interested in increasing display resolution than in improving uniformity, and I'm fairly sure that ramping up pixel density can impact on uniformity.

You mentioned a red tint - that's not something I've seen on either of these screens. If you can capture it on camera I'd be interested in seeing it, but I know how these things can be difficult to get on camera.

I think I'm happy with this one. I'll do some tests with my Spyder4Elite later on and post the results for anyone interested, along with a comparison of the unit I'm sending back and a comparison with my 2012 model just for interest.

Super helpful post. Thanks for your contribution to the thread.

I love my screen, whether it's made by Samsung or LG. I was mainly curious about whether or not Apple is still using multiple manufacturers and it seems they are.

I have received my macbook with AMD Radeon R9 370X and it has the following panel:

Manufacturer: 00000610
Model: 0000A02E

After 3 hours using it I'm returning this Macbook, white isn't white. There's yellow tint covering the complete screen!
When i put my old Macbook Pro 15 Retina 2012 next to this new model there is a major difference in color, also the brightness is more on the 2012 model which got a new screen a couple of months ago.

Getting a new one tomorrow, let's hope it's not the same panel with yellow tint.

More people has this yellow tint?

I have two rMBP (see picture below). A 1TB 2.8 15 and a 512GB 2.5 15. The 1TB (on the left) has panel model 0000A02E and the 512GB (on the right) has model 0000A02F. I did notice that the 1TB had a yellow tint and wasn't as bright as the 512 but it has cleared up on its own after use.

Received a new Macbook, the Display is not as yellow as the first one so i'm happy.

Manufacturer: 00000610
Model: 0000A02F

I got today 2 rMBP 15inch both with screens 0000A02E and both with yellow tint issue - mostly on the right side, visible on the greys and whites. Any chance of getting even screen?

So you bought two 15 rmbp that have the exact same screen models with the exact same defects?
