Panther to Tiger

My mini is on Panther and in a couple of days I'll be getting my new iMac on Tiger. Using setup assistant thru firewire cable, can I transfer all settings from Panther to Tiger?

One more Q: where do my inbox messages are kept? Can I back it up to an external and copy them to the new iMac?

It's POP setup.

If you're using mail, I would just make a new folder, copy all of the emails from you inbox into it, and then drag that folder to your desktop. It should make a copy of that folder and everything in it.

I never had any problems with Mail.app during my upgrade from Panther > Tiger.

You do have the original documents on the Mac Mini, so it should not really be a problem. 🙂

your mail messages will also transfer.

when you do the whole FW transfer thing, it kind of clones your HD onto the new one.
It's super-awesome; completely free of having to actually think about what to do.

I agree, it's a little "scary" seeing Mail 2.0 chewing through all your mailboxes, updating to the new format, but it works. I haven't heard of anyone losing anything yet.

Only problem is that if you have quite a few gigs of data on the old Mac, it will take up to and over an hour. 😱 That was painful for me. 😉 🙂
