When you go to the supermarket, do you use paper or plastic bags to carry your stuff out? My family uses paper bags wrapped with plastic bags to carry the bags, though they keep the bags to reuse them for the supermarket and that's what we put our paper recycling in for the weekly collection.

P.S. Been awhile since I've done one of these, but ten awesome points for the first person to guess where this quote is from and who said it:

"Ugh. And I thought they smelled bad on the outside."

Reusable carrier bag. Been using them for years before the anti-carrier bag hype smashed into the UK.

Plastic bag.

Han Solo - The Empire Strikes Back. :p

Ten awesome points for you, sir. And just 51 post more until you can get an avatar (sorry to be creeping, I was looking at your profile to see what gender you are. I couldn't find it, so I just guessed).

We use reusable bags. You can fit a lot more in them so it's easier to get the groceries in the house. And we're saving the world.:p

Good on you! I don't even know what happened to all of my tote bags, I guess I'll just have to go and pledge 20 bucks to PBS to get some more...

Thanks! :p I'll update my profile(male)! I'm really excited because of my future avatar too. Do you know where to get nice ones? Sorry for misleading the thread a bit.

Well, my avatar is just the cover of a Prometheus album I found on Twisted.com. I just downloaded the file and uploaded it. Of course, a lot of people who want personal avatars just make them in Photoshop.

I bought 2 tote bags when I went shopping yesterday. Figured it was time to do a little more for the environment.

I use the great recyclable tote bags from Costco. Every time I bring them into the grocery store, I get compliments and comments about what great bags they are. And I agree. :D

They are huge! I can get a whole basket's worth into three Costco bags. And they have handles and shoulder straps.

Those sound nice. Shame my family shops at Acme. Can you get them around Philly?

I use a tote bag. I live in a city, so it's easier to have one bag that can carry all of my groceries instead of two or even three. They're bigger, can hold much much much more, and are reusable.

Plus the saving the world thing! :D

PLASTIC.
I hate the feel of pager bags.
And the handle breaks too easily.
Sure the same thing happens to plastic bags but you can always double bag.
It would be really stupid if you double bagged paper. >.<

I use plastic, mostly. I've got a couple fabric bags I reuse, but mostly plastic.

Ime paper bags rip waaaay too easy and I'd much rather recycle the few plastics I use each week than be picking my stuff up off the parking lot. But I do recycle them.

I use whatever bag they have at the store after I finished with them in the bin they go:D

I use the tote bags they sell at the store for 99 cents.

They also started giving away "six-pack" versions of the same bag for wine bottles. I used those for a while, then realized I prefer using the old cardboard wine boxes for carrying my wine. The wine bags flop all around and it's a pain getting the bottles in and out. Since you're using the same wine box they shipped the wine to the store in, it's not like there's any better impact on the environment using the wine bags.
