I've installed Parallel PC recently on my mac and it's not running as i would like. The idea of having it was so that i could replicate my work environment at home (I brought a new key board and everything)

However - the Mac OSX Functions over ride the function keys, the @ and the " keys are swapped around and it's bugging me a bit.

I'm thinking that perhaps it would work better if it was just on boot camp? Am i wrong?

Thoughts appreciated because i don't really know what i'm doing here :?

Since I have never used Parallel, I can't comment on your troubles. However I have recently installed several versions of Windows under BootCamp, and I can say that keyboard mapping works pretty well and I can use the same Apple keyboard for both systems. There may be other potential problems but keyboard mapping is not one of them as long as you follow the installation steps correctly.

Hey xcode, cheers for the response... Yeh it's a funny one - I've brought a PC Keyboard to use with it (for the authentic experience!) and it's working out OK, the keys i mentioned are swapped though which is kind of annoying...

I'm thinking about switching to boot so that it run's smoother too, it's not that bad but as soon as i start moving big files / opening closing video and stuff it seems like its being pushed a bit.

I've used Parallels and VMware and could not get used to function keys not functioning as per normal under Windows. In the end I started to run Windows in Bootcamp all is fine. You'll have to reboot though but since I run 24/5 Windows and only in the weekend run OS X I am happy to reboot twice a week.

VMWare Fusion has a preference where you can change the keyboard mapping. I would assume Parallels has the same ability.

I bought Parallels this weekend and inside the boxed version is a keyboard shortcut guide.

Cheers all - I haven't purchased it I'm still currently using the trial version.

I'm not sure how I would go about converting what I currently have over to bootcamp though.

Any tips (MJL) ?

thanks

I am using paralells with Win8 on my new macbookpro, great options to use both same time and share files and apps. Only one issue is resolution on Win8 is keep jumping out of settings I like. Otherwise i am very happy to learn mac after 16 years with win only :) I don't care about keyboard is a little different, I got use of it.
