Parallels 9/windows XP on external hard drive

I've tried searching online to see if and how this can be done. I have a new MacMini that I need to have Parallels 9 with Windows XP on. I would prefer to have those installed and run from a USB or Firewire external hard drive and keep my MacMini clean of all windows. I want to keep XP for now so I don't have to spend $$ upgrading my software that I am running on XP.

I am sure there is a way that this can be done but I need some assistance in how to install and run it this way.

Searchin the web with "parallels vm external drive" found How To Run a Parallels Virtual Machine from an External USB Drive among other links that would've answered your question.

VMware Fusion also allows you to run VMs from external drives.
