I use Parallels w/Windows 7 for certain programs that don't have a Mac option.

If I insert a CD it ONLY mounts on the virtual Windows machine if it is running, which I do not want it to do. So at the moment in order to access the CD in OSX I have to shut down the windows completely.

Presumably there is a way to set the machine/s to avoid having to do this.

Any ideas?

Can I just tell it somehow NEVER to mount a CD onto the windows machine?

Any help appreciated :)

in mac os, switch to the parallels program, on the menu, pick Devices - CD/DVD - disconnect.

In the parallels settings, you can choose how you want your drive to behave by default.
