My Mac Book keeps trying to connect to the internet using the Internal Modem.

Every 3 seconds I box comes up saying "Internet Connect: The selected communication device does not exist. Please verify your settings and try again."

You have to click the OK button, to clear it off, and then three seconds later it comes back. This has rendered my computer completely paralysed.

I have tried looking for the automatic check box, can't find it, what can I do????

Take a look in Preferences -> Network. You should see a list like in the attachment. Do you have a modem listed?

If you don't want to remove anything, click on the little gear wheel at the bottom and make service inactive, or select "set service order" and rearrange the order in which the Mac tries to make internet connections.
