I would like to set a PIN that is required any time the Apple TV plays content above a certain level. For example, any movies rated R or any television content rated TV-MA, I'd like to require a PIN. In Netflix, you can set a 4-digit PIN for the various ratings levels.

My specific issue triggering this research is that I have Game of Thrones in my iTunes library (and visible on my Apple TV). I'd prefer my little boys not be able to watch this content. Is there a way to do this outside of just not having my account logged in to the Apple TV?

I think setting a rating (TV-PG, etc) sets it permanently for the device. If I want to watch, say Game of Thrones, I would have to go back into settings and change the setting. I believe this is how it works. I'd much prefer to try to watch GoT and have it pop up and say "enter PIN" and just enter a 4-digit PIN and go. This may be possible, just don't know how and that's what I'm asking.

Settings app > General > Restrictions

Set your PIN and set the age for TV and Films

If I set the rating for TV, say, PG, will it just not allow me to play R-rated content at all without going back and changing the setting? Or will it just ask me for my PIN if I try to view something above the set rating?

Exactly that, if you want to play 12/15/18/R rated content you will be prompted for the PIN. PG/U content will just play

Though TV doesnt have the same ratings, so it’s more limited for restricting
