Parents of 'Weird Al' Yankovic Found Dead

FALLBROOK, California (April 11) - The elderly parents of Grammy-winning recording artist "Weird Al" Yankovic were found dead in their home, apparently victims of carbon monoxide poisoning, officials said.

Nick and Mary Yankovic were found dead Friday in their suburban San Diego home by relatives who were worried because they had not seen the couple in a while, said sheriff's Sgt. Conrad Grayson.

Paramedics found Nick Yankovic, 86, in a chair in the front living room. His 81-year-old wife was on the bathroom floor.

A wood fire had been set recently in the fireplace, Grayson said.

"The house was full of smoke when they opened the door," Grayson said, adding that the family members found the flue closed.

"Weird Al" Yankovic, 44, had no comment during a performance in Mankato, Minnesota, on Saturday night.

Before the show, a graphic projected on the screens at the back of the stage dedicated the evening to his parents, KTOE-AM reported. Yankovic also canceled a meet-and-greet with selected fans.

Yankovic was scheduled to appear Monday in Grand Forks, North Dakota, as part of a tour for his new album, "Poodle Hat."

My prayers are with the 'Weird Al' Yankovic and his family and friends. What a tragic way to loose parents. May they rest in peace. :(

I have to agree. What a terrible thing to happen to two good people. Old maybe, but they shouldn't have had to die that way.

As a long time fan, my thoughts go to Weird Al on this day.

It could have been worse. Death by carbon monoxide poising is actually rather peaceful, well, as peaceful as death can be. You're unconscious well before you die. As opposed to the other possible alternative in that situation, death by fire.

Kinda wierd, I was tossing around the idea of seeing him in Appleton that night. His parents were great influances in his work, I hope this doesn't stop him from making music.

I feel bad for him. But it is a calm way to die.

How is he still touring with Poodle Hat, thats not really new...

Counterfit - Acually a recent scientific study said that eating burning coal was the most calm way to die. Very calming and relaxing.

Actually, I think it was eating burning coal, followed by drinking rat poison and shoving a hot poker into the eyes.
