Hi.

Does anyone know, or has access to find out, what part number B661-13161 is?

It’s from the new 16” MacBook Pro. I have only had it a month or so, but whenever I plugged in external monitors ( 2 bog standard monitors - not 4K or anything quality) it would get very hot along the touchbar area.

I suspect it was due to the upgraded 8Gb graphics card being used, and I think this excess heat has caused the battery to start swelling, which has caused gaps to appear between the top and bottom casing.

Being in Ireland, the land of the Apple tax dodge, they don’t have any Apple Stores here otherwise they couldn’t do their accounting swindles. So, I was told to book in with a local Apple Reseller instead.

Anyway, I have dropped it off to them, and the have just emailed me stating that they require that part. So I just wondered if anyone can tell me what it is. (Google isn’t showing any results)

thanks

.... Why don't you just ask the people who are servicing it?

Doubt many part numbers for the 16" are known outside Apple repair services. Really, if you want to know you'll probably have to call or email them.

If you have a problem with Apple's very legal business practices then do not do business with them.

Nobody's attacking you, it just seems really strange that you can't simply call them or email them and ask them what the part is. There's absolutely nothing condescending about it, and if they had called me and told me it needed part XXX, I would've just casually said, "Ok, what part is that?" and there's nothing rude or weird about asking that question. I mean, asking what part it is would've been the natural, automatic reaction, in fact.

Just ask them, they don't bite. Do you really plan on going back to get the machine, still not asking, and never knowing what part was replaced? Bizarre.

He emailed me in the afternoon stating he needed to order that part from Apple HQ. This was after I had dropped it off to him in the morning with a description of what was happening. He said he was very busy, and would ‘book’ it into his workshop and open it up later on that day to investigate.
I simply didn’t want to harass the poor fellow, by sending him a late Friday afternoon email, and let him get on with fixing it. I only asked on here because I suspect there will be a few Apple Genius’s or general computer repair specialists that might know what that part was, and, possibly even state what they think the problem might actually be.

Yes, I am sure I will find out exactly what was wrong with it when I collect it at the end of the following week (might be later as the guy is busy).

This forum has gone downhill significantly lately...... 😏 even the mods like posts that derail your thread 😂
You start a thread about how bad Apple’s business practice and largely ignore the excellent advice of simply asking the people working on your computer.

This forum hasn’t gone downhill, this thread shows people offering advice. You just don’t want to take it 🤷‍♂️

As for me liking posts. That's my business, since you mentioned their business practice, the other poster stating maybe you shouldn't buy from a company you disagree with is fair game

Ill reiterate what others mentioned, ask the people working on your computer, if it were me, I would have asked. Good luck and I hope your repair works out for you

... I'm not sure how your email client is set up, but mine doesn't really "harass" me when someone sends me something. At most it makes a ding noise and I know there's a new message, which I can then read at my leisure.

The amount of effort that has gone into this thread vs the 1 line of an email to ask what the part is, boggles the mind.

Some people do get nervy on forums. It was a simple enough question. I hope you feel like sharing the results when you find out in case anyone else searches for it
Thank you :)

I will share the results hopefully by the end of this week if I get my MBP back (in one piece).

Hopefully, the problem is just a ‘one off’ and won’t affect anyone else in the future, but just incase, I will report on here.

(maybe a kind mod could clean the thread up :) )
