Hi, I have a 4T external i'd like to partition and make OS journaled but, the partition tab is greyed out - please can you assist, thanks.

You have to Erase first I believe, partition map is currently formatted for MBR which is unsupported on OS X for partitioning. So erase as exFAT or OS X Extended (Journaled) and you'll be able to setup partitions then.
