I am creating a new partition and I don't know how to format it. Should I be using Mac OS Extended(Journaled) or do I use a different one. I knew the answer to this at one point but it seems that I have forgot :[

edit: I will be installing either ubuntu, or fedora.

If you're installing Linux then the Linux install usually has a step to partition your drive. OS X cannot natively partition your drive for Linux so I wouldn't bother doing anything on the OS X side. Just let Linux do it for you when the step comes.

please use the osx disk utility to do the actual partitioning first though, so you have a partition which has a specific size (doesnt matter what format), and make sure you know the size of all your partitions, because linux installers usually wont tell you which one is which. The installer will give you formatting tools, but read up about the setup because there are different formats (ext3/ext4, etc.) and you will have to know the correct steps to proceed.
