Partitioning EXT HDD

I was hoping to partition part of my EXT HDD to MS-DOS so i could move things easily between school and my mac. I already have a lot of data on the HDD, so if i was to partition it using disc utility would this data all be losted?
 
yes it will.

alternatively you can use macdrive on windows to access your current drive as-is.
