Hi,

So I have an older MBP 2.2GHz Core 2 Duo, 2GB RAM, with a 500GB Lacie external harddrive hooked up to it (SAMSUNG HD502IJ Media). I'm trying to make a ~30GB partition in FAT32 so that I can back up my PS3 harddrive on it. However, in Disk Utility, when I click the dropdown under partition for "Format", FAT32 or MS-DOS doesn't show up. I only see both Mac OS formats, ExFAT, and Free Space.

Has anyone else had this problem? Is there anything I can do without completely wiping this drive? I have a ton of files on here and nowhere else to store them temporarily.

Thanks!

Have you tried creating a Boot Camp partition on the drive with the Boot Camp Assistant?

Otherwise, you might try booting into an Ubuntu Live CD and using some of the tools there.
