Im about to partition my hard drive using BootCamp and i heard that doing this could possibly delete data off of my hard drive. I have a 500gb harddrive with about 190gb left of free space. I want to partition about 30 or 40gb to windows and leave the rest for OSX. Is there a chance that ill lose data when i partition or am i in the clear? And is 30-40gb enough for windows 7 and a couple of games (SW:TOR mainly).

While it is very possible and real that you might suffer data loss when you partition a drive, Ive never had a problem. That being said, you should definitely make a backup.

I thought 40GB would be enough when I made my first bootcamp partition but it wasn't and I had to back up and start over later. I regretted not giving myself enough space the first time around. I now am using 47 out of 130GB simply for the OS, and my programs, I have very very few files on the bootcamp partition so I would say give yourself at least 50-60GB if possible.

I've partitioned a few times and never lost any data. But I always make sure I run Time Machine right before I play around with the drive.
