Partitioning Time Machine ExtHD?

Hey all. I just got a video camera for Christmas, and I find myself using too much storage (well, eventually. not too much...). I'd like to put my videos on my External, but it's a TM-dedicated drive...how would I partition it without losing what's on it? Can Disk Utility do that?

I believe you can use the same partition for storage. ...Just don't place anything inside the Time Machine folder.

I guess I could do that. Is there anyway, though, I can safely partition? Just curious...
