partitioning

how long should partitioning normaly take? i'm partitioning my 250 gb harddrive in my UMBP (2,4ghz) and it has been busy untill this verry moment, and I started it 5 hours ago. is this normal? would every bit of progression be lost if I quit the proces and restart it?

I did the same thing today! After an hour I gave up as it was rinsing my battery and I haven't got my charger..

Sorry to say I it appears your partition process is definitely hung. Partitioning time normally will not take more than a minute or so at the outside.🙁

When you say Hung, does that mean stuck?

Yes, sorry.🙁 Hung in this context would be shorthand for a process that has gotten hung up- or stuck would be appropriate too.

are you using os x disk utility in /Applications/Utilitys/DiskUtility.app ?
if so, and u are trying to partition your drive, you need to use your os x disk.
or is this boot camp?

how long should partitioning normaly take?

Only a few seconds, well under one minute. A partition table is only a few bytes long.
