I am looking for a portable hub that will deliver pass through power to my 2020 M1 MBA, and have at least one true Thunderbolt port.

I already have an OWC Thunderbolt dock which is great and quite compact but has its own power brick which is three times the size.

I have found this, but would prefer the type on a free cable, rather than the double connection. Also suspect this one and many like it have a thunderbolt port which can be used for either USB-PD power input or Thunderbolt speed data transfer.

Thanks

That Huperdrive dock is a USB C dock, so you are not getting a “true Thunderbolt port” as you labeled it.

If you want pass through power with no power brick, it won’t be quiet. Thunderbolt dock/hubs with with the psu built into the body are going to run too hot for any passive cooling. The anker 7 in 1 mini Thunderbolt dock is an example of this. The number 1 complaint is fan noise.

Thanks! Is that this one ?

Looks like the only Thunderbolt port on that is the upstream one that connects to the computer? Can't see any Thunderbolt output ports and blurb only claims USB 3 gen 2 10GB/s. OTOH there are complaints about noise on the Amazon page!

Thanks yes you are correct. I have decided what I want doesn't exist. There is probably a technical reason why not.

I think there is a market here for a proper powered Thunderbolt Dock (like the OWC I have) with the smallest possible power brick. The 100W Apple MBP charger is smaller than the OWC one, and Anker do GaN chargers which are smaller than their standard counterparts.

All the ones on the market at present seem to assume the power brick stays at home under the desk.
