Has anyone found a use for Passbook in Switzerland or is it one of these 'designed for USA' features?

passbook is open, anyone can add things to it. the specs are available from apple.

You could write your own passbook entry and add it to your passbook, and mail it to your friends if you wanted.
they can be distributed in an app, by mail or web page.

it's designed for everyone, it's just that no one in Switzerland has started using it yet.

currently there is no passbook implementation. Sadly it's an Apple proprietary solution. IT departments hopefully prefer open standards.

I guess those data collection cards from Migros or Coop will be the first available via passbook. Big brother will be watching you

It is not a proprietary solution. Passbook supports 2D barcodes using the following formats: QR, Aztec, and PDF417. All ISO standards. There is nothing closed about Passbook. Please educate yourself first before misinforming others.

They have to have a barcode scanner than can read the codes. I hear that handheld ones work best. A developer will have to make a pass for you to use. Or you can make your own at http://www.passsource.com
