So I downloaded 1Password last night, but I didn't realize it was a subscription based app. I know they offer a licenseure as well, but I'm not paying $60 or whatever it is to download. I'm still on the trial period, but I will be looking for another password manager app. What do you recommend or use?

I want one that is a one time fee only, and one that will auto fill my passwords when I'm trying to login to different websites. And preferably one that uses Touch ID.

Thanks for the help!

What is the $12 fee I saw on last pass? Is that yearly or one time fee? Can you auto fill PW and usernames?

I don't pay a fee for it. Have it installed on more than one device using the same credentials. I don't use any autofill options but I think it has it.

I have used DataVault for years. Liked it so much I went to work for the company and was with them for five years. I still love the app and will stick with it. I have it for all my devices and can share passwords with my husband on his Android phones this way.

I would have thought that someone else would have mentioned it already but I can really recommend using KeePass see also their official website which is free opensource software on both desktop/laptop and iDevices.

On my iDevices I'm using the best app around which has a great sync feature as well which is KeePass Touch. I instantly bought the ads away and only had to pay once for all my devices with the same Apple account. There is a bug though since the recent update of the 22nd of December which is causing a sync problem with the latest version if you store it on Dropbox. I hope that this will get resolved soon.

Another option is MiniKeePass but that lacks an URL scheme (e.g. launch it via Launcher widget in the Notification Center) and sync features as well.

I personally prefer 1Password, but I also find Enpass to be getting on a very good level. Desktop app is free, you just pay a single in app purchase the relative mobile platform you choose (Android, iOS and Windows). You can sync with a lot of options, including iCloud if you're into Apple's ecosystem, plus there is a 50% promotion for Xmas now (I paid 4,99€) which is good. You should give it a try

mSecure 256 bit Blowfish encryption it has been available a long while now.
mSecure Password Manager by mSeven Software, LLC
https://appsto.re/gb/-NDBr.i
it syncs seemlessly across iOS devices and macOS via iCloud.
Updated regularly one off fee for iOS, separate one off for Mac
Many friends and colleagues have it we use it at work.
Touch ID (iOS)
Generate secure passwords for you from weak to 30 characters.
Copy and paste from mSecure to your login then save to keychain.
Maybe not the cheapest but IMHO the best.
Very highly recommended.

I have used DataVault as well, and while I've liked it, the lack of updates is very concerning. Yes, I know they're a small team (two people I believe), but it has been over one full year since any sort of update. I messaged the developer awhile ago but still have not heard back about a new beta (I'm a beta tester, too). Even the Twitter feed has become dormant. For those reasons, I would not recommend using DataVault, and I am looking at switching to something else myself.

Marc, the CEO, doesn't like doing frequent updates because it looks bad in iTunes unless you have a lot of people who will put in a review with each updated. Every update resets iTunes reviews to 0. He also tend to believe "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." So he and his engineer will spend six months working on a major update, and then several months doing betas. It's solid.

After some searching, web browsing and reading reviews, I found that there are a lot of password managers, but a quite a few aren't updated for a long time. So I narrowed my short list to the ones that got updated recently (the last half year).

I have choosen Enpass a few days ago based on reviews, their website and the fact that they offer a free trail version for iOS as well as a complete free version for OS-X. And there's no yearly fee :)

What I like so far
- easy to use, you be up and running in no time
- nice search function
- option to list weak and double used passwords
- use of touch-ID (I wouldn't want to type in my long master password every time I open the app)
- on time payment for the full version on iOS, which is a very reasonable 5 euros
- syncing between my iMac, iPad and iPhone works very well

I am using Enpass for only a few days, so this is only a first impression. But so far I like it.

While that all might be true, you can't go one year with no updates (even cosmetic tweaks) and expect people to keep buying an app. Most people will see the app as abandonware and find something else. Also, and as I noted, I am a beta tester, and there have been no betas in quite a long time, probably almost a year. The fact that I have not received a response from them about new betas makes me a little skeptical. Again, I know they're a small operation, but even so, you need to communicate with your customers or else risk losing them.

Which do you like? I won't use it too often, but I want something that works well when I do.

You must not be a current beta tester cause I've gotten two recently.

I used Lastpass for over a year. I cancelled the subscription, deleted the account, and switched to 1Password yesterday. There are huge bugs in the Lastpass browser extensions for Chrome and Safari that they have not fixed for months. The extension for Safari on macOS is also very clunky. They were recently acquired by LogMeIn so I can't say I'm surprised that software quality has degraded since I started to use it.

1Password is three times more expensive for the year, but I suppose you get what you pay for.

I have 1Password for years and is not a subscription - it was a one time purchase for iOS and Mac App Store. I use Dropbox to sync. Is there something changed for new users ? Maybe people don't realize that you can just buy the pro license and use Dropbox or iCloud to sync. The subscription version offers more features like web access and backup to name a couple.
