Password manager mess up password

Suddenly i could no longer get into my mail account by autufill the password. It does not work on my mac, my ipad and my iphone.
I was afraied someone has hacked my mailaccount.
Fortunately i have written the password on paper and the password works, after updating the password in the passwordmanager everything works well again.
It seems to me the password in the passwordmanager was messed up.
Has anyone else had such a problem?
To have the passwords somewere written on paper was a good idear.
I did not find the right place for the post. It was a general problem affecting macos, ios and ipados and macs, iphones and ipads.

LOL, that's the very reason why Password Managers were made, so you don't have them written down.

Use the password app on each device and view the passwords in question. Sounds like maybe a sync issue, where the password on one/some devices is out of date to others.

I don't use Apple's supplied password manager, but an actual password manager (proton pass), and its never done anything like that. I think it offers more upsides then what apple offers

I don't use Apples PWM. I use to have trouble with LastPass on my Mac. I gave up LastPass in 2023 because of them getting hacked too many times and not working right on the Mac. I use to use RoboForm in 2008 but didn't like the setup. After dumping LastPass I decided to go back to RoboForm (Paid Version) in 2023 and give them another shot. Definite improvement in RoboForm and their setup. For the past 3 years I haven't had any problems.
 
I'm curious. I suspect there is a record of the password in your password manager, maybe multiple records for the same website, and the valid record is there. Or it is in the change history as @Bigwaff suggests.

I haven't encountered an instance where a password is spoiled somehow and I'm not sure that can happen on its own without user error. I have had cases where I change a password and somehow a new record is created instead of modifying the existing record, and autofill pulls up the old record instead of the new one. The cases I've encounteed become obvious when scanning the password manager records.
 
I have just checked the record of the password, there is the entry for creating the password and a change of the password yesterday when i retyped the old password.
 
This is exactly why 3M developed Post-It notes. These yellow stickies are just the best for writing down the complex password one uses on every site requiring a password. Using the same password everywhere simplifies the number of stickies required. The stickies of course are attached (stuck, duh) to the bottom of your display for ease of use.

This is just the best solution to all the passwords and 2FA issues you’ll have. Low cost, easily found, always accurate, and simple to update as needed.

I have tons of Post-It Notes, not for Passwords but for reminders because of "Senior Moments". 🤣
Also use the "Stickies" app that comes with the Mac.
