I've been using DataVault on my iOS and MacBook devices for a few years, but it doesn't seem like the developers update it too often (last update was in December). In addition, the features seem light as opposed to other apps. Given that, is it time to switch to another service like 1Password? Or are password managers exempt from frequent updates compared to other apps? TIA.

1Password is all I recommend, been using it for years! It is always updated/supported and well worth the price of admission.

Dashlane I had a huge issue where my master password stopped working and I lost all my passwords, but I heard its great for many others.

Why use anything when you have one built in? any password I need I manually add if it isn't for a specific webpage

I'm using 1Password and Locko at the moment. Locko on the desktop, 1Password on iOS (because I just kept it when it "accidentally" went free because I liked it that much). Might go all in with 1P when Sierra comes out, depends on whether BinaryNights updates for iOS 10/Sierra. I don't like the idea of using a password manager that hasn't been updated in half a year either.

In my main Locko vault I keep my passwords, software keys, bank/card info and identifications, router info, some contacts, some PDFs, and some notes. Specifically in my Apple ID entry I have custom fields for the additional apps I have to use custom passwords with because I use the 2-Step login.

I have never liked using Keychain Access going back to OS X Tiger and that was way back before I was even thinking about managing passwords. It feels too much like using Finder for browsing files while these other apps are built to work like the Contacts app.

Stick with DataVault. Up until about 5 months ago, I worked for the company and did all the customer support. Their main reasonable for not doing more regular updates is because of iTunes reviews. Every time an update comes out, reviews drop to nothing until there are five for the new version. Most of us don't do multiple reviews for the same product - unless it's a major update.

Ascendo is a small company. Really small. There are two engineers, one of whom is the CEO. The lead engineer is brilliant.

I don't know if you're old enough to remember the old Avis vs Hertz rental commercials, but the tag here is "we're number 2, we try harder."

I'm not sure I follow: the lack of updates stems from iTunes reviews? Is it that they don't want to update and then have the reviews drop to zero? That doesn't make sense to me. If there are updates or features that would improve the app, why hold them back? Don't get me wrong - the app works well, but it could use a few tweaks. Even a "we're working on some great updates" message or tweet would help a great deal.

It never made sense to me either. But that's the reasoning. He doesn't like weeks to pass with no reviews. Few people think to hit the "all versions" button when looking at reviews.

They are working on some great new features though. ;)
