Password oddity or my lack of understanding?

I'm tracking an order from Apple and linked to the Apple Store to track the order.
I have to sign in with my Apple ID.
The password I use for my Apple ID does not work - what does work is the password for the computer...... am I missing something?

It's possible to log in some Apple websites with the user password in Safari, it will show a special Apple ID sheet. I think it's a similar feature to passkeys.

Thanks very much for replying, not sure what pass keys are but seems odd that it doesn't accept my actual Apple ID password (used for iCloud, App Store etc.) but my computer password.

The dialog asks for your computer password because you are already logged in the Apple ID / iCloud account at the system level.
