Hello all, I would like to have a password protected folder, I have Tiger, like nobody can access this folder but by having a password, is that doable? and is it secure?
If you go to system preferences and select Security and switch on the File Vault features. It's supposed to be as secure as it gets. Don't forget the password though!
if you just want a folder make password protected dmg file diskutil. all you have to do is mount it and type in the password everytime you need it. filevault just slows down you computer, and is more secure that you need probably. btw, just next time search. http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=122495&highlight=password+protect+folder
I know this is an ancient topic but I got it while searching from google i want to know , how can I make sure the .dmg file is not corrupted so I do not lose my data? Can I transfer that .dmg file on a flash drive or external hard-drive or upload it on the internet to storage, and then retrieve it when wanted? The .dmg format, can it be opened on other OS's like windows or linux or do i specifically need mac os x tiger for it? thanx, I got important information that I need to protect for a lifetime
