Hey there, I realise this question might appear a bit 'iffy' to most at first glance, so I guess I need to supply a little bit of background.
I'm currently studying Computer Forensics at University and we're currently well into the security module - the discussion of password hashes etc. Now, I'm obviously aware that passwords are not stored plaintext, but where on my Mac can I find where the password hashes are stored?
Obviously, nothing I'm able to say is going to convince you entirely that I do not have malicious motives here - but I assure you, the only reason I wish to know is so that I can probe my own security by trying to break my own passwords. (I've set up a "Guest"-esque account on my Mac that my flatmates have chosen a password for 😉 ).
However, I will say that were I asking this for malicious intent, I'd head to some underground BBS or IRC. I'm just curious to where and how these files are stored; I'm still fairly new to the Security Business.
I'm running a MacBook (Intel) with OSX 10.5
