In Numbers 3.6.1, )S 10.11.3,
I want to enter in cell 1 a 1 then moving down enter a Space then moving down enter a 2then moving down enter a space. Then select these four cells and drag them down duplicating and incrementing into many cells. This operation works in Excel but NOT? in Numbers? Or is there a way?

that behavior in excel is the same in numbers, you just forgot how to do it ;)

type in 1, 2, 3 then mark the three and drag the outline (lower right corner) and the then the following cells will become 2, 3, 4... (You can use the same for dates and also if you have a pattern, e.g. 1,3, 5 will result in 7,9,11 and so on)

if you want automagically, like you described, then you have to format the cells to understand that they contain unique identifiers something like "=cellAbove+1"

That is not how this works in Numbers.

OP... enter 1, 2, 3 then select the three cells, then grab the yellow dot in my screenshot (not the corner) and drag it down.

ah ok, thats what I meant, was sitting at a Windows machine when writing
Heh... for sometime I was using Windows at work and OS X at home and it made my head hurt. Not so much that one was better than the other, but just remembering how to do things differently on each machine was a pain. :)
