Pasting screenshot into mail no longer working

I use the screenshot function a lot, and often will paste a screenshot into an email. That function no longer works, and I'm fairly sure it started with Tahoe. I've checked the settings, and the screenshots are set to save to the clipboard. They will paste into iMessage, but not into Mail. MacOS is up to date on 26.4.1. Any help to fix this issue is appreciated!

Yes, I've tried that a few times and have also done a restart.

Updated: I just used the trackpad "right-click" and it let me paste it that way, but my usual Cmd+V does not paste. At least there is a workaround!
