Apple doesn't manufacture anything. They design and hire someone to build it.
Samsung manufactures everything. They don't design, they copy from everyone.

This is great news. I want these talks to fail and Samsung products to be banned worldwide.

"Stop copying us," - Apple

"I'm sorry this meeting is over," - Samsung

What specific iPhone copying are all you guys talking about?

I don't really see the connection between Samsung's phone products and the iphone. Maybe the charger, but there's only a few ways to design a small box with two prongs.

how dare u ask this question, now we'll end up having 20 pages about who copied who with what first replies again leading to no answer obvs

Like any other software patents aren't?

Apple doesn't hold the copyright on lame software patents..... or is it the patent on lame software patents.
While true Apple has been suing with the same crapents.

In many ways Apple is behaving like a patent troll looking for crapents it can sue with.

This could linger for quite some time as each companies, legal teams battle it out.

In the mean time, Samsung has developed workarounds & Apple get's to enjoy the battle they launched.

Based in California, a highly litigious state, Apple was compelled to launch some legal attacks just for a show of force. :)

Apple's legal team could always remind them that we saved their ass back in the 50s and they need look no further than a few miles north for the alternative. :D

I didn't know Apple Corporation was around or that they had an army to send.

Now if you must bring up the Korean War, I must remind you S Korea sent 320,000 combat troops over roughly 10 year period to help US in the Vietnam conflict.

I'm pretty sure no other nation sent as many combat troops to help out US in post WW2 era.

Anyone surprised? Didn't think so. Their legal teams probably advised otherwise - that's what they live off.

And it's also executive pride, plain and simple. Both believe in themselves. The patent business has become so complex and so many patents that can be considered conflicting that it has become simply a legal game to stiffle innovation.

I love how these threads always devolve into nationalism and racism. Good job, Apple fanboys. Class act.

Yet another failure by Tim Cook. This guy better shape up if he wants Apple to stay healthy. Being able to communicate effectively and persuade is part of this.

I doubt Cook wasn't able to effectively communicate that Apple isn't trading their non FRAND patents for Samsung's FRAND ones, given that Samsung can't legally force them to.

I think there needs to be another area on this website called "more patent battles, blah, blah, blah" or similar.

These patent battles don't seem to help the end consumer at all. Definitely needs a re-think, but who would be brave enough to reduce the worth of large companies patent portfolio?

What it comes down to is that Apple doesn't really have a 'carrot' to offer Samsung.

All they can promise is to stop using the stick. Samsung is probably asking "Well, what do we have to do to get you to stop using the stick?"

Apple is probably saying "Stop selling awesome smart phones that do obvious things we have ridiculous patents for"

Samsung is like "What are you, crazy? Why don't you make a legitimate suggestion?"

Apple gets all "Don't make me sue you some more"

Samsung replies "Game recognize game, Apple. You can't stop the Galaxy"

etc etc

No, but then again, if Apple offers no cross-licensing deal, Samsung isn't forced to give them the same rate as they give to other players who do put forth patent cross licensing deals.

That's pretty Fair and Reasonable. ;)
