If true, it'd be a nice change to the numpad thing.

i hope they add it to iOS 5.0. They have plenty of time and they already have the code written it seems. It would be a great addition to the numpad. Also they could change the "slide to unlock" and add the "drag the key to the lock" and maybe a few more. Between new unlocking screens and new passcode screens iOS would become even more up-to-date. I guess we will see if Apple likes this idea or not.
 
The funny thing is that pattern locking was all the rage on touchscreen devices back around the turn of the century.

Within a short time, as people figured out that your fingerprint grease left the pattern behind, pattern locking disappeared.

It reappeared with the iPhone's slide-to-unlock (which had already been done invisibly in 2002 on a phone). Except Apple wisely realized it wasn't secure, so they embraced it the other direction and actually showed the user the (easy) pattern to slide to unlock the phone.
