A geographical oddity
Paul Newman, 83, passed away today. In my opinion, one of the top three (maybe number one) actors of not only his generation, but all time.

He was smiling... That's right. You know, that, that Luke smile of his. He had it on his face right to the very end. Hell, if they didn't know it 'fore, they could tell right then that they weren't a-gonna beat him. That old Luke smile. Oh, Luke. He was some boy. Cool Hand Luke. Hell, he's a natural-born world-shaker.

An acting legend. RIP Paul and thanks.

I think I'll watch The Sting later today, one of my favorite films.

A wonderful actor...

...Cool Hand Luke is one of my all-time favourite movies. He is absolutely captivating in it and barely says a word.

Hudsucker Proxy also a personal favourite.

That's really sad to hear. He was a really good actor and really caring. I know he has a line of food products, and all the profits go to charity. I don't know many products that do that.

R.I.P. Paul

A comedian (can't remember which one) had a great line about seeing a bottle of Newman's Own salad dressing in the supermarket and thinking, "I didn't even know he was missing."

Now he really is.

Nobody who made that many great movies will ever be really gone though. He achieved a kind of immortality. I'll probably always think of "The Hustler" before any other Newman film. His breakout role. If you haven't seen this one, catch it the next time they show it on TMC. Great stuff.

The Sting is one of my favorite too; I watch it at least once a year.

Paul Newman was one of my first (and only) movie star crushes. I never really got over it, either. I have such respect for him as an artist, a hunanitarian, and a person. His incredibly long (and apparantly very devoted) marriage to Joanne Woodward was another reason in my long list.

I will miss his presence in the world, and wish him everlasting peace.

Paul will go down as not only a great actor but also a great philanthropist.

Rather than the now-typical marry-divorce-marry-divorce-etc-etc that goes on in Hollywood, he stuck with his wife. I always appreciate seeing people, especially the famous, that have been faithful to each other for so long.

He just seemed like a down-to-earth guy and didn't let the fame go to his head.

He'll be missed. :(

I think this thread epitomizes Newman's career. So many classics, all varied in style, and everybody has something they like. I can't think of any actor in this generation that could compare.

I certainly hope that nothing changes with the NO brand now that he has passed - the quality is good and the purpose noble.

My kindness regards to your wife, children and family.

Strange thing is, the movie Cool hand Luke was on t.v., just last week.
I my self, like that movie and have seen it countless times.

My favorite or most memorable sense are the

1. Egg eating bet

2. The part were he must shake the branch to let the boss know that he is still their. When he needs to go to the bathroom.

3. The Chile pepper he uses on the hound dogs.
