RIP Paul..One of the greats of the screen..The Long Hot Summer is also one of his earlier films (1958) and Joanne Woodward was in it. Great film, one of my favorites. Cat on a Hot Tin Roof as well... Far too many to list here..

I grew up on Cool Hand Luke and The Hustler. I will never forget :

"What we have here is a failure to communicate"

And his laying on his back while other inmates stuffed him with boiled eggs.

RIP Paul..You will be missed.

Heard great things about his food.
Like his salad dressing. :)

I have such respect for him as an artist, a hunanitarian, and a person. His incredibly long (and apparantly very devoted) marriage to Joanne Woodward was another reason in my long list.
Most unusual in Hollywood.

He was very low key and lived his life that way.

Paul will go down as not only a great actor but also a great philanthropist.

Rather than the now-typical marry-divorce-marry-divorce-etc-etc that goes on in Hollywood, he stuck with his wife. I always appreciate seeing people, especially the famous, that have been faithful to each other for so long.

He just seemed like a down-to-earth guy and didn't let the fame go to his head.

He'll be missed. :(
Well said.

Has no-one mentioned Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid yet?
"Think ya used enough dynamite there, Butch?"

I never laughed so hard in my life the first time I saw that.

His pretzels are my favorite.

"Shameless Exploitation in Pursuit of the Common Good

Newman's Own has grown into a powerful and lasting expression of Paul Newman's generosity. The Company has generated over $250 million in proceeds that have been donated by Paul Newman and the Newman's Own Foundation to thousands of charities worldwide. Particularly close to his heart were the Hole in the Wall Camps, now the leading global family of camps for children with life-threatening illnesses, which Paul started over 20 years ago."

Thank you Mr. Newman for all your kindness to this world.

For those of you who don't know, I spend quite a bit of my free time volunteering at one of the Hole In The Wall Camps, Camp Boggy Creek. I actually am just on my way back to Chicago from there, stopping to see my parents. I feel really privileged to have heard the news that we lost our patron saint while I was there -- we actually didn't hear until Saturday morning.

I've actually never seen a Paul Newman movie, but he was the very dearly loved patriarch of our Camp family, and we're really going to miss him, although the thing that brought him into our lives remains our passion and a way that we can celebrate him often.

He was also one of the most beautiful men I've ever seen. Ain't nothin' wrong with that:

The Sting is one of my favorite too; I watch it at least once a year.

Paul Newman was one of my first (and only) movie star crushes. I never really got over it, either. I have such respect for him as an artist, a hunanitarian, and a person. His incredibly long (and apparantly very devoted) marriage to Joanne Woodward was another reason in my long list.

I will miss his presence in the world, and wish him everlasting peace.

Amen to that; a great guy, great artist, great human being and a fantastic role model. And, indeed, as a number of posters have pointed out, he was a role model as a partner, too.

Agree completely.

Has no-one mentioned Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid yet?

Wonderful movie.

Absolutely, I do buy it. I have noted leekohler's comments, too. Yes, indeed, both moms and dads drooled; he was a lovely guy and a great man, attractive mentally, physically, artistically and indeed, morally.
Cheers

Long Hot Summer and Cool Hand Luke. He was one cute puppy.
