I briefly switched my payment method to Pay Pal to pay for an in app purchase off 1.39 CAD since my credit card I use for iTunes Store is a prepaid and I had not topped it up yet. Well, imagine my surprise when I got an email from Pay Pal right after saying I authorized a payment to App Store for 28.72 CAD!!!!! :( how does this happen!? Is it the developer or Apple who is at fault? I noticed just prior to switching to Pay Pal that it declined my credit card... I thought I was maxed and at 0 but later on when his happened I checked and I have 25.00 CAD still on it. So it seems the in app purchase itself was the culprit as it seemed to have tried to charge over 25.00 on my credit card as well and declined since I only have 25.00 left on it. But the app clearly said 1.39 CAD and in my recent transactions in the App Store it shows as 1.39 CAD! I’m confused.

I sent an email to support and hopefully they will refund the 28.72 as a side note I deleted the app as that in app purchase didn’t work to remove the ads anyway!

Looks like a poorly developed app. You should ask for refund from the developer.

We're you using the official PayPal app, and do you have two factor authentication enabled?

Yes and yes. It’s not Pay Pal. The transaction was an Apple transaction.

And remember that with 25.00 on the prepaid card it declined even before I switched method to Pay Pal. So it was trying to charge me more than 25.00 even on the credit card. It’s the app itself I think.

I double checked as well to see if it was a subscription I was paying for and that 1.39 was one month or something and it charges you for the whole year but nope that was not the case.

Very strange. When you did the in-app purchase, you should have seen a pop-up generated by iOS (where you have to confirm the purchase by either TouchID or entering your password). At that point the transaction is out of the app's control. What amount did that show? Seems hard to believe that Apple would charge a wrong amount (i.e. different from what is shown in the confirmation dialog).

It showed 1.39 CAD but when I approved it declined my credit card which had 25.00 left on it.
