want to pay off existing loan, upgrade to X but keep the 7+ I enrolled in the program a year ago. Best way to do this?

Contact Citizen One and payoff the loan with them. However you will no longer be in upgrade program. If you want to upgrade to X using upgrade pre approval process, upgrade to X, but when time comes, do not turn in your 7+. You will have 2 loans. Once X is in your hands, contact Citizen One and pay off loan on 7+. You will then only have loan on X. That way is the best if you do not want to mess with new loan enrollment process on preorder day.

Ah. Good info. Was not aware I could “upgrade” without turning in the old phone. Thought I had to exchange old for New for the process to work.

Seems much easier to open the new loan and then later after I get the X, pay off the first one.

Thanks for the recommendation

Yeah, when you pick up your new phone your store app will say that trade in status is not complete until apple receives your phone. If they don't receive it within 2 weeks, old loan remains. Had issue like this when I was picking my 8+. They gave me 8+ and said that I have to mail my 7+ to Apple. Had to argue with them. I guess person was new. Once Ithey took it, they gave me receipt for old phone and it was not till next day when app showed that trade in status is complete.

This is what I’m doing...using the 6S Plus to get pre approval, but I only have one payment left on it next month. So yeah I’m not turning it back in.

I'm having an issue now with this. Apple put a hold on my old loan due to the upgrade. Citizen's One is telling me they can't do anything until Apple releases the hold. Apple is telling me they see no issue. And around I go....

Interested to know the outcome. I was planning to keep my 7 and just continue making the payment on it. Already have my X.

Actually, I think I figured out the issue for me. I ordered my iPhone online through Apple. With that, the trade-in kit is sent out and is under a new order#. I chatted online with Apple Support for that order and confirmed that by cancelling order for the trade-in kit, it will release the hold on the old loan and resume.

After the rep cancelled the order, this was listed on my order page.

"Your trade-in has been canceled. The associated loan will resume, in addition to any payments on your new iPhone."
