I've read the FAQ on ATT's website for Next. It look like to me you can pay off any time in full, but if you want another phone with a Next plan, you have to wait two billing cycles.

No- if you fully pay the entire "pay off amount" due on a Next device (not just the 12 or 18 months amount), the line that the Next device is on *immediately* becomes eligible to be used for a new Next device, and that previously paid off device immediately becomes "yours" officially.

I confirmed this from multiple chats and calls to AT&T as that is how I intend to purchase on launch day- pay off the $300 remaining on my Next line at the time in which I checkout with the 6+.

I was afraid AT&T's system would need some sort of processing period to indicate that the line was "released" from Next and ready to go again so to speak. Clearly, standing at the Apple Store with the employee handling your transaction you can't afford to wait two days, or even 2 hours for your line to reset as eligible. So I have done my homework on this.

If you browse to the "Manage My Account" page, and navigate to where you would normally pay your bill ("Make a payment" button) you'll see the option to "Pay off remaining installments".

    See attached screenshot.

Primejimbo- I would be interested though if after paying off that remaining installment balance, your line did intact become immediately eligible. I know what they've told me but of course we know what we're told and what we see in practice are two different things!

Would be very grateful if she happens to recall if it became immediately eligible or if it took a bit of time.

    Thanks!

Of course I only have myself to blame for missing this in the info, but I can't upgrade to the 6s (or whatever it will be called) for two months after it is released? I'm starting to regret my going this route in getting the 6 Plus. Shouldn't the plan be called the Next 14 then? Why does there have to be a two month wait?

Edit - OK...I am a complete moron and need to learn how to read better. I read that as I need to wait after the 12 month period had passed. I had to call AT&T to verify when I could unlock my iPhone 5 and found out that it was a two month wait at the start of the 12 month period, not at the end. I am an impatient person!

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone here for the response. It answered many of my questions!

I wanted to pay off the installments. I hate payments, but had to do the NEXT plan in order to keep the discounts, only made sense to us with a 10GB shared line.

you DO NOT need to wait 2 billing cycles to get another NEXT device.
I paid off my Note 3 and got the order in for the iPhone right away.
