PayPal has announced that users can now add their PayPal and Venmo credit and debit cards to Apple Wallet, while still earning the same cashback and rewards on eligible purchases.

The new integration means users can use the cards to make contactless payments in-store, and use iPhones, iPads, and Macs to make purchases in apps and on the web using Apple Pay.

To get started, users should open the Apple Wallet app, tap the + button, then select the add "Debit or Credit Card" option. Cards can then be scanned or card details entered manually. PayPal says that users will be able to do this directly in the PayPal or Venmo apps in the coming months.

When making payments with Apple Pay, users can earn 2% on purchases with the PayPal Cashback Credit Card, earn PayPal Rewards points when shopping with the PayPal Debit Card and redeem them for cash back or other rewards, and earn cashback with the Venmo Debit Card at participating businesses. See the Paypal website for more information.

Does the PayPal change apply anywhere outside the USA? Either now, or are there confirmed plans that it will?

little less useful now honestly since PayPal/Venmo removed the automatic backup funding a few weeks ago

if you keep a balance in either account often I guess this is nice but I liked how PayPal could pull the funds from my bank account while still getting 1% cashback before

Jesus Christ, talk about long overdue. Who even cares at this point anymore?
I had a PayPal credit card, many moons ago. It was back when Apple Pay was first introduced - this had to be what, 2015?? - that the PayPal credit card was basically the only credit card that could NOT be used with Apple Pay. No real reason, other than you just couldn’t add the credit card to Apple Pay. I don’t even think there was another credit card on the market at the time with a similar problem.
Even back then they said they would be supporting Apple Pay soon. I stopped waiting, I got an Amex, and thus I stopped using their card.
This really took an entire decade for them. Bravo.

I thought you could add any credit card to your wallet and use it for Apple Pay. What makes this special? Just that PayPal wasn’t giving cash back on those?

Too bad you can’t add your PayPal account as a card in the wallet 😬
When I read the headline I figured this would be what we could do now. Kind of annoying that you can't.

I don't want to apply for anything or even get a physical card, it'd just be neat to be able to add Paypal as an Apple Pay payment card directly from the app.

The Venmo credit card is pretty decent. 3% cash back at your top category, 2% at your next - no limits on how many rewards you can get. It's a Visa so it works at Costco. The app and customer support are lacking, but now that there's Apple Pay support there's one more benefit!
