Hey,
I accidentally left my PBs charger outside last night and we had heavy rain. When I plug it in a wall socket everything seems to be normal. No noise, no smell and the fuse intact. I didn't dare to plug it in the PB though... DO you think it is safe to do so?

Open it and see if something's fishy inside

What's the easiest way of doing this?

I would replace it. They are cheap on eBay.

Why take a risk.
Not in german ebay :( only third party ugly ones. But yeah, why take a risc - I'll by one of them ugly things and postpone the trouble for when I get to my faulty iBook again

I had a charger catch fire on me inside a Starbucks. Trying to put it out while keeping the Mac on the table and my coffee from spilling everywhere was a challenge. Luckily disconnecting it from the laptop was all it took.

Glad you decided to replace it. You don't mess around with this kind of stuff.

In my house there are 5 Apple chargers plugged in and they all are cool to the touch, I also have one of those 3rd party chargers, while it does work and charges my powerbook, it gets so hot to the touch that I'd never leave it plugged in unless I'm there to watch it.

I can confirm that! The iBook has a third patrty charger and that ugly thing gets hotter than an :apple:TV 1.gen. And that is pretty hard to achieve :D
Whereas the now maybe faulty PB charger always was quite cool. BUT the PB 1400c's charger gets pretty hot too!

Figured I should make a post here,

please do not use those 3rd party Chargers you get off ebay, they are horribly unsafe electrically, and also have very noisy outputs, they do not meet any of the approvals/safety stamps they may be marked with

im sure you have all heard of the Fake iPhone chargers that Have killed people, the same is very true here. so for the Love of your PPC Laptop and yourself please dont use them

if you need a new charger please make sure to buy a genuine apple one, or if your skilled enough Splice the charging cable from the PSU onto a known good safe PSU with appropriate voltage and current ratings (this is what i have personally done)
