IMHO, nothing is really good at that price range. All cheap, plasticy junk with poor displays, keyboards, and trackpads. The Dell would be as good as any, although I might try to find an off-lease Lenovo Thinkpad.

I just bought my wife a Samsung Ativ Book 7 which is very MacBook Air like. However, it was $950. I couldn't justify getting her awful hardware.

If you're looking for a good laptop, this is the best advice.

Otherwise the Dell you're looking at is as good as anything. I buy Dell because their warranty is so the best I've seen, but Lenovo's are good too.
