I let my friend take a look at my Mac and he said the USB drive (recovery) doesnt have anything on it. Are you able to see those files like you can on a PC? I guess that could be the reason its not giving me the option to boot from USB?

I think you should be able to. If you boot into your existing installation, and then plug in the USB drive, it should "mount" on the desktop, and you should be able to click on the icon and see its contents. If it is blank, then you should complain to Amazon and get your money back. If there is something in there that looks like a setup program, click on it and see what happens.

Do you have the original DVDs that the MacBook Air shipped with? If you do, then if you can get a hold of a USB DVD drive (any drive will do, not just Apple's) you should be able to boot from them by holding down the option key. The USB recovery key was unique to the 2010 MacBook Air, so it's possible that it won't boot a 2008 or 2009 model.

If you don't have the original discs, try giving Apple customer service a call to see if they will send you a copy. Alternatively, if you are near an Apple store, set up an appointment with the Genius Bar and see if they can do a clean installation for you. Once you can get your hands on a DVD drive and the original restore discs, doing a clean installation will be easy. Unfortunately, they didn't add the "Internet Recovery" options (which make it really easy to do a clean installation) until the 2011 models.

Be aware that on eBay they sell USB sticks that looks-a-like that recovery/instalation USB disc that guys here are referring to. If you got the one from the first page, sellers says it has 10.6.4 on it, but I do not believe these are genuine Apple ones.

In your case I would recommend get the DVD installation disc either from the one who give it to you MBA or try find someone else within your friends who has same MBA. Also there are many DVD installation disc on eBay.

Yea I understand fully what your saying. The only reason I went ahead and bought off E-Bay is cause the guy/place has a 99% positive feedback rating. Im just going to try and take it to an Apple store in a near-by mall.

I have 2 disc's that came with the MBA, but since it has no disc drive I have no idea how to use them. Im sure it wouldnt be too difficult to figure out.

Heres the Ebay seller - http://www.ebay.com/itm/13060945065...X:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649#ht_2381wt_1163

If you can get a hold of any external USB DVD drive (I've seen them as low as $35), you can plug it into the USB port of the MacBook Air, and then boot from the disc (holding down the Option key) to get into the installation screen.

If you bring the discs with you to the Apple store, they may be willing to start up the process for you.

I don't know. It isn't anything official.
