For some reason when I try to have this turn on and "protect my mac" it refuses to turn on.

Anybody know why or how I can fix it?

Uninstall both programs and stop using them should fix the problem. No need for either to be installed. Just learn to be smart on the internets.

I don't want this to turn into a debate on if I need it or not. I did delete and reinstall the program but it still remains off. Any other ideas. Thanks for your assistance.

Delete it and run another anti-virus if you truly feel the (currently useless) need to run anti-virus software on a mac.

    Try ClamXav.
