Finally got my 8800 2.8 Mac Pro yesterday. Haven't had much time to play with it yet/open her up and see how she handles (spent last night installing software/copying over 39000 songs from Itunes) but have noticed on shortcoming I'll need to rectify - namely that it is woefully short on firewire inputs for my needs.

In looking for PCI cards, I can see no rhyme or reason as to picking one (prices go from $10 to $200, and I'm not seeing any reasoning behind it). So need advice on what card I should get.

My firewire needs are as follows:

400 - Input for video capture
Output for sound (running KRK speakers on my Firebox)
2 external hard drives (that can be daisy chained)

800 - GTech drive
1 external drive (that can run on either 400 or 800...and isn't a necessary drive at this point)

I can maneuver things so everything is running, but there seems to be a bottleneck, especially with my sound using firewire (and I'm afraid of having Firebox being active when I'm capturing video as it seems a recipe for disaster).

I don't need any more USB (don't really use what I have). Do
