From what I have found out mobile data goes through one APN and tethering goes through another making it fairly easy to catch who's tethering however so many people do it with plans and without you have the same odds of getting caught as downloading an copyrighted movie off a torrent site. Level 1 routes traffic through the mobile APN while level 2 makes the data itself look mobile such as the user agent. I can't say these as fact just what I've gathered through research.

Probably nobody monitors this thread anymore, but I got a letter from AT&T this morning saying they've detected tethering. I have an unlimited plan, but hit 3GB of usage last month, got a txt saying they're going to throttle my speed because I used more than 3GB, and then they must of been added to their "watch" list to check for tethering.

I read that PDANet hides tethering, but afraid to use it. I called AT&T and they said if they detect one more tethering activity, they will terminate my unlimited plan. Anybody know for sure it works? That is, after getting the warning email/letter from AT&T, has anybody switched to PDANet (from something like MyWi) and successfully continued with tethering?

Which Tethering App did you use?

I have used PDA net in the past with no issues. I have been using an Android phone the last few months and have no issues either.
