iPhone 11 PDF ATTACHMENTS -- iPHONE v MACBOOK

I have been sent a PDF attachment that contains both figures and letters. When I open the attachment on this MacBook, the text is so faint that it is almost illegible. When I do so on my iPhone, the text is perfectly clear. Why should this be happening ?

While I wait in hope of a more, well, illuminating answer, I went to System Preferences, Display, Resolution, Scaled, and tried the various scales. This did not produce any improvement. What does improve the legibility of the attachment is simply to Select All.
