Readdle has updated PDF Expert with Handoff support, allowing users to start working on iPhone or iPad and easily pick up on Mac where they left off.

To transfer a PDF document from an iPhone or iPad to Mac, click on the Handoff button in PDF Expert for Mac and select the file. Handoff will automatically transfer the PDF document to the desktop, including all annotations and edits. The iPhone or iPad must be on the same Wi-Fi network as the Mac.

PDF Expert is a popular iOS app for reading, annotating, signing, editing, and merging PDF documents. Readdle launched a Mac version of the app last November, which was selected as an "App of the Year" runner-up by Apple in 2015. Readdle is now working on PDF Expert for Mac 2.0, which will include OCR and PDF text editing.

PDF Expert 5 for iOS is $9.99 on the App Store, while PDF Expert for Mac is on sale for $19.99. Readdle says the Mac version is currently 70% off and will return to its regular $59.99 price tomorrow. A free seven day trial is also available. PDF Expert for Mac 2.0 will be a free update for existing users.

Where is the better Apple Pencil support? Someone made a comment in the forums about 3 months ago promising better Pencil support and we haven't seen anything. This is a really great iOS app, but I feel like the drawing engine and palm rejection needs a little bit of work.

I don't regret purchasing it either, but it's disappointing to be promising new features (albeit with no date) but to never hear anything about it again.

Here
I have to say, I've left Preview for the first time in 4 years for this app and it's really great. It's smooth, fast, uses less RAM and does 3x as much a Preview and the consistent annotations across iOS and OS X is a huge.

My only complaint (and I filed a request) is that each time you open a PDF from the Finder or Mail, it opens in a new tab instead of a new window. So you can have 4 PDFs open in tabs with one window. You can drag them off like in Safari, but I wish there was an option for default behavior. When I open multiple PDFs, I need to see them spread across monitors.

We are so happy to hear that you enjoy PDF Expert for Mac;)

Opening PDFs in new window sounds great. Can you send us your email address? Would be glad to add your vote for this option.

It's a great PDF reader and I haven't looked back since moving from GoodReader last year. It's much faster than any PDF reader I've used on OS X (especially since Apple has completely broken Preview since Yosemite) and iOS. The only gripe I have with the Mac version is the lack of document proxy icon and the only gripe I have with the iOS version is the lack of Apple Pencil support.

Yep, we talked about Apple Pencil support when we were waiting for it:) Now it works fine with PDF Expert 5. To make it work on your iPad Pro just turn off wrist protection in PDF Expert 5 Settings > PDF.

I would find it way more useful to handoff a document from my mac to read or polish on the go on my iPhone, is that possible?

Readdle says the Mac version is currently 70% off and will return to its regular $59.99 price tomorrow.

This part is confusing. According to Macruqmor's sister site, Appshopper, the Mac App Store version of PDF Expert launched at $19.99 late last year and has remained that price ever since. So it was never $59.99 to begin with.

It was introduced at a discount. Many apps do this for a period before raising their price.

Yea, but it was released in November. Four months is quite a lengthy introductory time period. At least longer than most.

Anyway, my issue was just with the MAS store version. I don't have knowledge of the history on their website store front, but I don't think it was ever mentioned that $59.99 was the original price on their MAS page, which is why I found it confusing.

Here's what their blog said about the initial price back in November:

"PDF Expert for Mac, with all the reading and editing features I just mentioned, is just $19.99. However, as we will unlock more power in future updates, that price will gradually rise to $59.99."

Thank you for the clarification. That sums it up :)

Preview has been great for me, but I've avoided any serious use of .10 or .11, other than testing and being severly irritated, so I'd appreciate knowing what's been broken now on Preview.
I've been using GoodReader and PDFxpert since they were introduced (PDfxpert almost exclusively recently) but have just purchased the Mac version before the price rise. Too bad it doesn't work on 9.5.

looks like the sale is over... guess I missed it.

Yep, 19.99$ was an introduction price, but version 2.0 will be a free update for current users.

Thanks for your reply and apologies for the not seeing it earlier. I've been trying to work with 10.10 for a couple of months but can't stand it any longer and have switched back to 10.9.5. Do you have a version that works on 10.9?
