Hi,

Is there a pdf to image pdf converter available?

I try to make text non selectable also non copyable.

or you encrypt/password protect your PDF and allow only the functionality/features you want.

Either way it is pretty easy to copy the text content of any picture using e.g. Apple’s Live Text.

Thanks for all. Some of my clients cant open password protected pdf files.

I need a simple app / extension that can convert pdf to image then image to pdf. One click solution is better.

And: the password has to be shared to make the content visible when sharing the PDF
I think it depends on the program you use as well as the functionality you want to protect: Adobe’s Acrobat allows for e.g. text/content copy-disabled PDFs or selectively disable printing. The password is only asked when you want e.g. to print such PDF - otherwise it’s displayed without the need to provide/enter the password for the protected functionality.

It depends of course on the intended output device/resolution in dpi/pixel - but e.g. an image will take up a lot more space than a vector-based PDF - this probably doesn’t matter much for documents with a low number of pages. And if the intented output is a screen the resolution needed isn’t that high, but if you like to have crisp prints, that’s a completely different scenario.

Maybe, besides copy-disabling the PDF content, another option consider is just to watermark the PDF?

Not true. The password is only necessary if you want the end-user to be able to copy/edit the content of the PDF. All the content of the PDF is visible at all times, just like any other PDF. You just decide what you want the end user to be able to do in the Security tab in the File>Properties dialog box.

You don't need to password protect the PDF file for opening... just editing once it's open. The PDF will open normally just like any other PDF, they just won't be able to copy/edit the PDF.

The solution:
It's not one-click, but here's the solution to make a new image PDF from an existing PDF (Mac only).
  1. Open the PDF in Preview app.
  2. Go to File>Export...
  3. Choose PDF from the Format drop-down menu, and choose Create Generic PDFX-3 Document from the Quartz Filter drop down menu (leave the two checkboxes unchecked)

  4. Hit save
Your newly created PDF is one single image saved as a PDF. This avoids the extra step of saving the PDF as an image file, then opening the image and re-saving it as a PDF.

Of course, as @Slartibart pointed out, if the end user is using the latest macOS, LiveText makes all of this a moot point because it can OCR the text on the fly allowing the user to copy any text, even in an image (and it works really, really well).

Educational! Thx, one learns everyday!

Thank you for all !

I have found an app called PDF Prevent Copying in app store. It's not supported anymore but it works flawlessly.

That's an original one. I could have suggested Textify (macOS, see my signature), but it does exactly the inverse.
If you don't mind using iOS. QuickScan will do that for you.

There are many solutions to convert PDF to image but there is no solution to your overall request. I say this because anything that can be viewed by the recipient of the file can be captured and converted back to text using OCR. It's just like the false promise of self-destructing messaging apps. By necessity, if a recipient can view something, then they have the ability to capture and do anything they wish with the content.
