Man, I love Pebble but doesn't anyone in their "room" raise their hand and mention the word bezel?
No joke, it takes up like 1/2 the display.

Probably going to stick with the Apple Watch. I wonder whether I wouldn't have preferred an always-on e-ink display on it though... Pebble may have gotten that bit right.

I almost feel bad for Pebble. Their original watch was really cool when it came out, and mine still works well. The whole issue was it didn't work half as well with iOS as it did with Android. So a good chunk of their market was denied its full capabilities for a long time. Then Moto, Samsung and Apple entered the market and now I don't think they stand much of a chance.

I don't normally nerd rage about this stuff, but I wish they'd devoted the time and energy for this into getting the new timeline feature working on their original Pebble and Pebble steel...

"Pebble Time Round means more frequent charging is required. Battery life is around two days"

Wasn't battery life Pebble's entire justification over the Apple Watch? This company is a joke.

Yes odd.

It's not lightest (Apple 25g). It's not forever battery life, which was the point of e-ink, and Pebble generally. It's not water proof.

It is more expensive, with a more limited screen size and functionality than competitors. $249 competes at the Samsung/Moto price point near Apple Watch territory of $349, but sacrificing the specs that attracted original Pebblers.

Sell.

As much as I think that a round form factor doesn't make any sense, I think that the tendency is that round smart watches are much better accepted. Plus, I honestly think that the new smart watch by Samsung actually has a better solution to the UI problem than the Apple watch. As much as I hate to admit it, but with the Apple watch Apple didn't really manage to shape the market the way it did with the iPhone, iPad or even macbook air.

I think my favorite line in the video was when he was talking about sharing Pebble Time Round:

'Maybe they'll get one'

That sounds to me like marketing in its purest form.

'Give us your money, but if you have already given us your money, give us your friends money.'

Just my 2¢.

It is far far too early to say this. Each of the products you mention have a far different target consumer and adoption rate for the technology. The watch has been on the market for half a year and Apple is playing a long game with it. In addition you are forgetting that Apple in one go and within a half year dominated the market completely, selling more than all other manufacturers combined.

It's still Apple related.

They have been reporting on related technology for years......

You do realize there will be a front page update when google has their nexus event?

In all seriousness though, this was unexpected and interesting. I wonder if Apple will be tempted to go circular next gen?

I see a lot of people complaining about the bezel, but you can get a model that has numbers on the bezel. With an analogue watch face, I think that would look pretty cool, like a real watch.

Not as a response to this watch, that will not be successful.

Here is the rationale behind this statement: Pebble has a small market share, that is under attack from the large incumbents in mobile computing (Samsung, Apple, etc..you know who they are). Pebble's only differentiation is the good battery life, but it is questionable whether that will be a defining factor for many consumers that put their watch on a nightstand anyway each night. In addition consumers want options, apps and flexibility, something that Samsung and Apple are able to provide in much higher volume.

I expect Pebble's market share to shrink. They need to make a leap ahead of the rest in order to have a real sustainable competitive advantage and gain market share. I have no confidence that they will be able to do so.

These idiots should have sold the company to someone big. There is no way for them to compete with the likes of samsung, motorola, and apple. They will exhaust all their resources trying to compete and in the end just make a vastly inferior product.

No one is interested in their technology. All of the large ones that you mention have superior experience with consumer and mobile technology. It would be easy for them to reverse engineer a Pebble and make one and subsequently improve it and sell it cheaper.

Pebble is a classic example of a company that has failed to sustain its first mover advantage and create a real sustainable competitive advantage.
