I love my Pebble steel and think in the long run my SS Apple watch will trump it. However there are a two things I'll miss for sure

7 days (sometimes 12) day battery life

The ability to see notifications come in without having to move my wrist to turn on the display. (helpful in meetings when you can just dart your eyes across to the watch without bringing any attention)

My Pebble Steel has been good to me but the Apple watch is way superior. It's like comparing a Mercedes to a Kia. Sure the Kia is more affordable and has better gas efficiency but that's not what people care about when they buy a Mercedes.

I think this sums it up perfectly.

Fellow Pebble owners tell me what you think of the Apple Watch after having experienced it at the Apple store during your trial.

Is it worth the price jump vs the pebble. We know the pebble GUI interface is like stepping back in time but is the apple watch interface and function the future or just a little better?

thx

It's difference between a 1989 Honda and a Tesla Model S P85D, in theory they are the similar products but in practice it feels completely different.

I love/loved my pebble, wear it almost every day. The best and worst part of a pebble are the notifications, i wanted something that would allow me to triage all the distractions my phone causes but in practice often what happens is I become frustrated that i can't do anything about the notifications that are important without pulling my phone out.

Actionable notifications are what has me the most excited about the Apple watch.

The only part of the pebble i will miss is the always on screen.

I love my pebble, it failed and was out of warrantee, but Pebble sent me a replacement. I love the battery life and the always on.

I have an Apple Watch on order and will probably sell the pebble.

I've had a Pebble watch for about 1.5 years now, since shortly after it was Kickstarted, and it's an awesome device. But when you compare the Pebble (the original, steel, the new Pebble, new Pebble steel) to the Apple Watch, there is simply no comparison.

Don't get me wrong, the Pebble watch is great and very functional. The battery life will remain unmatched, even on the new models (seriously, a week without having to worry about charging it is impressive). But when you look at features, appearance, abilities, etc of both watches, Apple Watch wins by a landslide. I would never go (and have never gone) a day without my Pebble on my wrist since I bought it two Octobers ago, and it's changed the way I use my phone. But now the Apple Watch is here and it's going to provide so much more than the Pebble can.

Pebble Steel wearer here. Mine is from the first batch when they came with both the leather band and the steel bracelet. Still wear it 2-3 times per week. It's held up remarkably well.

I appreciate the battery life, though I usually charge it nightly anyway (not wearing it to sleep, so why not). Always-on screen is nice, though if I'm not looking at the watch, who cares.

Other than that, the Apple Watch will be superior in every way.

And size wise, the Pebble Steel looks totally fine on my wrist, so I should be able to wear the 42mm Apple Watch with no trouble.

I am wearing a pebble for two years now.
I was one of the first ones to got a Kickstarter edition and last year I upgraded to a Steel.

I am just loving is, not for the looks but for the function.
I use it only for notifications but for that it is just great.

I am using my iPhone for mixed use, it's a personal device but also use it trough the day on a professional level, so when I "hear" it going off if could be friend/family or Buisiness contacts/colleagues, so I always had to check and more than 50% of the time it was just some stupid private thing what could wait.

Since I got the pebble that's gone, my phone is on silent all the time (witch is great on its own) and I use my pebble as a filter. It vibrates, I look, Buisiness? I take my phone, private? It can (most of the time) wait.

If a watch does that the same way (witch looks like it) I am a happy man, if the watch is going to do a lot more than that is just an nice extra threat.

A Smartwatch is here to stay if you ask me, only a bummer I have to wait till the 12-26th of May to experience the apple way of things.

I went for a fitting today since a lot of pictures posted over the weekend made the 42mm look gigantic. All I have to say is, it is not. Both were much smaller that I was expecting. Since a lot of the pictures of folks wearing the watch on their wrist make it look so big I figured I'd just share a comparison shot.

Here's the Pebble Steel side-by-side the 42mm Apple Watch. If you have a Steel and like the fit the 42mm will not disappoint.

Thanks for posting the pebble / :apple:watch comparison. I figured they would be about the same.

my pebble constantly looses connection with my iphone - meaning messages don't show up - and the screen is scratched like crazy (I've never dropped nor rubbed it against anything ruff). I can't wait for the Apple watch.

I backed the first Pebble on Kickstarter, and have worn it since I got it. I haven't seen or worn the Apple Watch in person yet. Just yesterday, however, I caught myself about to touch and swipe the screen on my Pebble.

So, I guess I'm ready to switch.

Lately, the Pebble has not been receiving notifications and I have to toggle Bluetooth on it. So, I'm hoping the Apple Watch is more reliable given that it has better "hooks" into iOS.

I've made the jump from Pebble to Apple Watch.
Pebble original (Kickstarter edition) to 42mm Sport Space Grey.

Will definitely miss the battery life of the Pebble, every 5 days or sometimes more, would be needing a charge!

But bring on the Apple Watch!

Just sold my pebble on eBay, all in with the Apple Watch, now we wait.

I must of had a bad pebble it was 1 week old with tearing issues, battery maybe lasted 2 days, and the last straw was swimming with it it got water damage and it was fired. Sold replacement.

A little fair warning: Showering with my Pebble killed it. I know it's supposed to be water proof but I pushed a button and suddenly the screen started flipping out. The problem went away but got progressively worse until it was unusable. Several other original Kickstarter backers had the same issue and all suspected showering while pressing the buttons. The waterproof test doesn't test the buttons, just the device itself with all buttons neutral.

The differences between Pebble and Apple Watch are vast. Sure, they both perform some of the same basic functions, but the Apple Watch does much more while the Pebble lasts much longer. It's no contest for me, but if I had an Android phone I'd probably stick with Pebble (since it seemed functionality was limited on iOS).

your set might be defective. i been using my pebble as a lap timer in the pool and have pressed all 3 buttons for start/stop, lap, rest.

Can anyone confirm if the 38 mm was close in size as the pebble or any pics of a apple watch next to pebble

I've worn my Pebble daily for two years, first the regular Pebble and then the Steel. Compared to the Apple Watch both Pebbles feel like using a rotary phone. The build of the Apple Watch is better, the software is more integrated and visually appealing. The features allow me to complete functions that I would use my phone for without the need of my phone where as the Pebble watches are really only helpful for screening calls and messages, if the calls or messages are important I have to go to my phone to actually act on them. With the Apple Watch I dont need to go for my phone at all.

Like many others here, I was a backer of the original Kickstarter Pebble. Don't think much of the build quality (it crapped out on me within six months) or the hardware or software design, but I loved having notifications on my wrist, and the functionality that the watch added to some of my iPhone apps was terrific. The advantage of being able to avoid digging out my phone every time I got a notification or call, or needed to look up a glance-able piece of information, has been obvious for years now.

So I regard my Pebble experience as a very nice proof-of-concept of (the basic functions of) the Apple Watch. It's left me with no doubt that I have a use for the Apple Watch; the constant refrain of "Apple hasn't explained what it's for" drives me up a wall. (Same goes for the ridiculous sketch in Nilay Patel's "Verge" review in which he moans about how horrible it is to get notifications in the middle of a social occasion. 2012 called, Nilay: it wants its contemporary problems back.)

I've owned my Pebble since the Kickstarter launch and have been wearing it regularly. To me it was a stop gap until something better came out especially something that integrates with the iPhone better. It was good for what it was and I like getting notifications on it allowing me to decide whether to take my phone out or not. It is however pretty basic compared to the :apple:Watch and I'm looking forward to having more control and interaction through the watch.

As soon as the Apple Watch was announced, I couldn't wait to flip my pebble steel. I loved my pebble too.

I have had my Pebble since Nov 2013. It's been a lifesaver for me because both of my jobs require me to be a short distance away from my phone. The Pebble was always a placeholder until Apple's watch came out.

Today I had my try on appointment and I was very happy at what the Apple Watch is and can do. In a way it's a little sad because I look at my Pebble as inferior now when it served me so well that last year and a half.
