Just wondering if anyone with an iPad Pro M2 and Pencil 2 running the current iPadOS 17 build could check the charging behaviour of their Pencil - If I disconnect the pencil and re-attach it, it will charge up to 98%, but then it will steadily discharge if the iPad is locked and plugged in to power. Within a couple of hours, the pencil will be down to 50-60%, and I've seen it go down to 30%.

This seems to be too much to be a partial discharge float charge to protect the battery, and really seems to be in the "will wear out the battery by running out its charge cycles" territory.

Anyone else seeing this?

For anyone interested, Apple support / engineering are aware of it as a bug, though they don't have a date for a fix. The bug may be related to the tap side to change function feature.

They're replacing the Pencil under warranty, as that seems to have solved it for some people. Also the accelerated wear on the battery from charge / drain cycles may have caused a significant shortening of its service life.
